The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty (statue de la Liberte in French) was presented and given to the US by the French in 1886. It greets and welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans. The copper-clad statue, dedicated on October 28th,1886,commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence and is a sign of friendship from France to the USA. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi sculped the statue, Alexandre Gustave Eiffel(designer of the Eiffel tower) engineered the internal structure, and Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc was responsible for the choice of copper in the statues construction. The statue is 151 ft tall, but with the pedestal and foundation it is 305 ft tall.
